The Manure Inn Society makes national news. On Monday, June 19, 2009, USA Today took note of The Manure Inn Society and sent their Washington Bureau Chief, Susan Page, to interview five of our members. Rev. Bob Kerr, Mr. Mel Muskopf, Mr. John Cline, Mr. Dan Botts, and Rev. Randall Sawyer met at our usual table to discuss the economic situation in our community. The discussion lasted about 60 minutes and much of it was photographed by a staff member from USA Today. The resultant article was published on the front page of the Tuesday, June 23, 2009 edition of USA Today. Our thanks to Randy Sawyer for making the arrangements necessary for this event. Now meeting at Jackson Street Diner. For a variety of good reasons, it has become necessary for The Society to change its location again. As of this writing (April 4, 2009), we are enjoying our delicious breakfast and fine fellowship on the South Side of Mexico's square. Senator Bond to Retire from U.S. Senate. The members of The Manure Inn Breakfast Society (and most of the public) were surprised to learn that a Society member, and U.S. Senator, Christopher S. "Kit" Bond will retire when his present term in the Senate expires in 2010. A long-time member of The Manure Inn Breakfast Society, Senator Bond will complete 24 years in the Senate. Before being elected to that office, Bond was twice elected Governor of Missouri. The Board of Directors of The Manure Inn Breakfast Society voted 6 to 5 to allow Senator Bond to continue membership in The Society after his term in the Senate expires. A motion to waive his dues failed for lack of a second. |
